Strings jam
Tuesday, November 11th, 2008B minor Mass intro
Saturday, November 8th, 2008high strings and piano
Thursday, November 6th, 2008This clip is made from just first and second violin, and piano. You often don’t need a full orchestra with all of the bells and whistles to get your ideas across. Sometimes less is more.
Logic for midi work
Wednesday, November 5th, 2008I use Logic 7.2.3 for midi and sample work. It’s great for working with samples. This clip is in 3/4 time, quarter = 146. But it is pretty much impossible to find the beat. I like writing pieces in 3/4 that perhaps are not quite in 3/4 time, as that keeps the melodic rhythmic motion moving forward.
Samples are VSL. All reverb, eq, and other mastering elements are native Logic stuff.
Linux audio demo
Saturday, November 1st, 2008Ok, so you can do lots of pretty neat stuff with audio software in Linux. One of these days when I get my thoughts together I will write some how-to guides.
The clip below was created entirely in Linux, using these free programs:
Samples are VSL‘s Opus 1 and 2 in .gig format. (The samples I used here are not free, but free samples are out there.)
Geek specs: I use Kubuntu 64bit running on an AMD X2 3600, 4GB ram, with an Audiophile 2496 card.
It’s a little rough- missing the piano part and many other things at the moment, but check it out!
rain!
Saturday, November 1st, 2008Well it has started raining again in California.
And with the first rain, my ceiling is now leaking.
